Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
The project will replace the existing bridge over the Connecticut River, maintaining the two-track configuration and existing channel location.
The replacement bridge upgrades the design from a rolling lift bascule to trunnion bascule design with additional vertical clearance for maritime traffic, which will improve the bridge's functionality and serviceability.
The objective of the project is to replace the existing deteriorated bridge with a resilient bridge structure which will enhance the safety and reliability of rail service, offer operational flexibility and ease of maintenance, and provide for increased capacity and efficiencies of rail transportation along NEC North End, while improving navigational capacity and dependability for marine traffic in the Connecticut River.
Intended beneficiaries: AMTRAK, CTDOT Shore Line East, and P W (freight).
