Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
The project funds NEPA, preliminary engineering, final design, and construction of the interim repairs that will allow the Devon Bridge to remain in service for another 10 to 15 years until the bridge can be fully replaced.
The interim repairs will focus on 1) addressing the deficiencies in certain members of the bridge, especially the fatigue prone detailing of the ganged eyebar assemblies in the pin-connected Baltimore truss in spans 5, 6, and 7 and 2) mechanical and electrical parts used to open and close the Scherzer rolling lift bascule span.
The interim repairs are necessary to avoid having the bridge taken out of service, a situation that would shut down rail service for a significant portion of the NEC.
