The project consists of project planning activities and includes conceptual design of alternatives.

The replacement of the Saugatuck River Bridge is identified as a priority project in the Northeast Corridor (NEC) Capital Investment Plan.

The objective of the project is to complete project planning and alternatives development for a project to replace the existing deteriorated bridge with a resilient bridge structure and is necessary to enhance the safety and reliability of rail service and reduce service disruptions and delays, offer operational flexibility and ease of maintenance, provide for increased capacity and efficiency of rail transportation along the NEC, and ensure the economic well-being of the region by maintaining a major link to the core of the New York metropolitan area and the global market.

Intended beneficiaries - AMTRAK, MNR commuter, Class 1 and Class 2 freight (CSX P W).
