Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
The project funded under this agreement will complete the design and construction of four infrastructure projects (the components) to increase railroad capacity and expand intercity and commuter passenger rail service on the corridor between Washington, DC and Richmond, VA.
The project is Phase 2 of the Transforming Rail in Virginia program of projects.
The four components include the addition of two tracks through Southwest Washington, DC with a new two-track railroad bridge over the Potomac River to Arlington, VA and construction of three sections of a third mainline track for use as passing sidings in Prince William, Stafford, and Spotsylvania counties.
The recipients FSP application included constructing a fourth track with an improved boarding platform through the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) L'Enfant Station in Washington, DC; however, this will now be completed separately from the project.
Intended beneficiaries are the traveling public.
