Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
This agreement funds the grantee, the City of Laredo, TX, to complete PE, right-of-way and utility identification coordination, and NEPA activities in preparation for grade crossing improvements at 31 at-grade crossings on the Laredo Corridor, the primary gateway for commerce and trade between Mexico and the US and Canada.
The PE will identify improvements including installation, repair, or improvement of grade separations, railroad crossing signals, gates, and related technologies, highway traffic signalization, highway lighting and crossing approach signage, roadway improvements such as medians or other barriers, railroad crossing panels and surfaces, and safety engineering improvements to reduce risk.
Improvements will likely include two grade separations, five crossing closures, nine crossing signal installations and roadway improvements, including medians, and 15 roadway-only improvements.
Proposed improvements will therefore benefit multiple modes of transportation (i.e. transit, freight, cars, pedestrians) to improve safety on the corridor, improve efficiency and mobility on a vital cross-border trade route, and support expanded capacity on the CPKC network.
This project will be completed in partnership with CPKC.
