Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
The project will benefit Broward County and the entire East Coast of Florida by constructing supplemental safety measures at 21 highway-rail grade crossings on the Florida East Coast Railway (FECR) Brightline Florida LLC (Brightline) shared-use corridor (shared corridor).

The project will include the design and construction activities that will enhance safety by reducing one of the primary types of accidents experienced along the railway: vehicles driving around the railroad entrance gates.

To this end, the project will construct improvements at 21 crossings, including the installation of centerline raised medians at one crossing, exit gate improvements at 15 crossings, and both exit gates and centerline raised medians at an additional five (5) crossings.

Of the 66 crossings on the corridor in Broward County, all crossings have entrance gates, and 39 have an exit gate or other element that helps to prevent drivers from going around the gates.

This project would improve 21 of the remaining 27 crossings working towards a sealed corridor through Broward County.
