Grant Description
Rehabilitation and upgrades to Heart of Georgia Railroad to include NEPA, preliminary engineering, final design, and construction to upgrade three bridges from a ballast deck to open deck.
The bridge locations are at MP 590.2, MP 601.7, and MP 634.4.
Once complete the project will improve safety and provide long-term durability at these bridge locations and support the State Rail Plan to accommodate 286,000 lb rail cars.

Funding Goals
THE PROGRAM INVESTS IN A WIDE RANGE OF PROJECTS WITHIN THE UNITED STATES TO IMPROVE RAILROAD SAFETY AND EFFICIENCY ANDRELIABILITY. MITIGATE CONGESTION AT BOTH INTERCITY PASSENGER AND FREIGHT RAIL CHOKEPOINTS TO SUPPORT MORE EFFICIENT TRAVELAND GOODS MOVEMENT. ENHANCE MULTI MODAL CONNECTIONS AND LEAD TO NEW OR SUBSTANTIALLY IMPROVED INTERCITY PASSENGERRAIL TRANSPORTATION CORRIDORS. THIS PROGRAM INVESTS IN RAILROAD INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS THAT IMPROVE SAFETY AND SUPPORTECONOMIC VITALITY INCLUDING THROUGH SMALL BUSINESSES AND CREATE GOODPAYING JOBS WITH THE FREE AND FAIR CHOICE TO JOIN AUNION AND INCREASE CAPACITY AND SUPPLY CHAIN RESILIENCE AND APPLY INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY AND EXPLICITLY ADDRESS CLIMATECHANGE AND GENDER EQUITY AND RACIAL EQUITY.
