Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
The project will fund the preliminary engineering, grant administrative services, final design, and construction to replace approximately 14 miles of 75 lb rail with 115 lb rail.
The project also includes replacement of 3 switches, installation of 4 new switches, relocation of two switches, replacement of 4 grade crossings, and installation of related ties and ballast.
The replacement of the identified rail in this RACE project will allow for the industry standard 286,000-pound freight car to move safely and efficiently along the Hoosier Southern Railroad, reducing the risk of derailment and rail defects.
Accomplishing this project will lead to a reduction in costs for the Perry County Port Authority as well as allow the industries that rely on the train to reduce input costs, due to increased tonnage per rail car, and therefore the potential to increase production.
The deliverables and tasks that will be accomplished are:
Task 1: Project management - detailed project work plan, budget, and schedule
Task 2: Final design engineering
Task 3: Construction
