Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
The purpose of the project is to improve the safety and efficiency of the freight intermodal network on the CSXT National Gateway rail system, specifically along the corridor between Charlotte and Wilmington, NC.
At the western end of the network near Monroe, NC the project will extend the utility of three freight sidings (Polkton, Waxhaw, Stouts), construct two grade separations to close two grade crossings (Helms Road in Waxhaw and Wesley Chapel Stouts Road in Indian Trail) and close one crossing at Ross Wright Road in Polkton.
In Wilmington, the project will rehabilitate track and bridge infrastructure, close three grade crossings, and upgrade safety at 24 existing grade crossings.
Through Wilmington, freight speeds will increase from 10 to up to 25 miles per hour while increasing safety and efficiency for rail and vehicle traffic through the city.
