Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
The objective of the project is to close the existing Norfolk Southern Railroad grade crossing of Brush College Road (Crossing #218516E) and replace it with a grade separated crossing to carry Brush College Road over the existing NS railway mainline tracks and Faries Parkway.
The existing rail grade crossing at Faries Parkway and Brush College Road is not protected by gates.
Traffic signals are synchronized to turn red when a train is approaching.
The proposed project will improve the safety and efficiency of this intersection for vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians by eliminating the at grade crossing and creating a grade separated crossing.
The City of Decatur (Grantee) will complete the following deliverables: a project management plan and a final performance report.
The project will result in a new grade separated interchange.
The project beneficiaries include the City of Decatur, Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and Norfolk Southern Railway (NS).
