Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
The project will provide operating cost assistance to provide daily intercity passenger train service between Union Depot in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and Union Station in Chicago, Illinois.
The project will allow for one trip in each direction.
This round trip complements the existing Empire Builder long-distance service with a schedule providing an intercity frequency that is approximately 4 to 6 hours apart from the existing Empire Builder schedule, to provide flexibility and convenience oriented towards passenger rail travel within the TCMC Borealis Corridor.
AMTRAK will complete the following deliverables: a project management plan, final performance report, signed 209 agreements between the state sponsors and AMTRAK, amended agreements between AMTRAK and the host railroads, performance reports, and updated AMTRAK agreements and payment schedules.
This project will result in increased passenger service availability along the TCMC Borealis Corridor.
The project beneficiaries include AMTRAK Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
