Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
This agreement funds the grantee, Texas North Western Railway Company to complete preliminary engineering, environmental review, final engineering design and construction activities necessary to reconfigure the existing TXNW Etter Interchange complex to achieve additional capacity capable of handling 286,000 lb. rail cars and improve the fluidity of traffic with the Burlington Northern Sante Fes Boise City Subdivision. Further improving existing interchange conditions and operations with the installation of dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) power-controlled switches that create a safer and more efficient interchange environment for both TXNW and BNSF crews.
As a result of the project, TXNW will have a more flexible infrastructure allowing it to better handle longer trains and unit train traffic by being able to assemble, disassemble, and spot full length inbound and outbound unit trains at interchange but still off the mainline. This will also eliminate the existing bottleneck created by siding capacity constraints at Etter and address the operational needs of TXNW's shippers and the general rail network in the region.
