Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
The objective of the project is to bring the Substation 41 up to a state of good repair, address environmental vulnerabilities, and provide an interconnection point for the NJ TRANSITGRID thereby ensuring the reliability of the NEC.
These grant funds will be used to advance the project from the preliminary design phase to final design, engineering, and force account labor to support design. These grant funds will also be used to fund the grantees support of construction and design, including flag protection and grantee program management and construction oversight activities.
The reconstruction project will provide an unprecedented power-redundant system for the NEC in the event of regional or national blackouts due to extreme weather, cyber-attacks or other commercial power grid infrastructure failures. Elevating and reconstructing Substation 41 will allow portions of the NEC to run on self-substituted power, which in turn will aid in the overall reliability of NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak train services.
Improvements will increase reliability of NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak train services. Passengers, businesses, and local residents will benefit from the increased safety and reliability of infrastructure related to Substation 41.
