Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
The purpose of this grant is to modernize Hackensack Substation 42. This will be accomplished by constructing a new control house with modern equipment that is more reliable. Additionally, the control house will be designed to accommodate future expansion for additional traction power capacity at the substation.
The new control house will replace and consolidate both the existing control house located within the existing substation and the load-sharing metering functions housed in the pre-fabricated control house that sits adjacent to the existing substation. The new control house will also have capacity for controls and protection of an additional transformer at the substation.
Improvements will increase capacity, reliability, and resiliency to minimize downtime to railroad operations. Passengers, businesses, and local residents will benefit from the increased safety and reliability of infrastructure related to Substation 42.
