Overview

Grant Description
The project is intended to bring the 27.3 mile segment of Iowa Northern Railway Company main line track to FRA Class 3 operation from current FRA Class 1 and 2 operations by replacing the existing jointed rail with new 115 pound continuous welded rail.

Currently, speeds on the main line track are limited to 10 miles per hour (mph) for FRA Class 1 track and 25 mph for FRA Class 2 track. Completion of the project will allow increased operating speeds of 40 mph, where possible.
