Grant Description
This funding will provide an opportunity to restore, rebuild, and modernize Amtrak's intercity passenger rail rolling stock, facilities, stations, and infrastructure. Anticipated outcomes include a significant reduction or elimination of state of good repair deficiencies, improved safety and reliability for the traveling public, and setting a foundation for growth of intercity passenger rail as a mode of travel for the next generation.

Funding Goals
THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAM FUNDED THROUGH THIS AGREEMENT IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELIMINATING THE BACKLOG OF OBSOLETE ASSETS AND AMTRAK DEFERRED MAINTENANCE BACKLOG OF ROLLING STOCK AND FACILITIES AND STATIONS AND INFRASTRUCTURE. THIS WILL SUPPORT AMTRAKS EFFORTS TO MAINTAIN AND IMPROVE SAFE NATIONAL PASSENGER RAIL OPERATIONS AND TO COMPLY WITH ALL SPECIFIED FEDERAL OPERATING REQUIREMENTS AND MANDATES ON THE NORTHEAST CORRIDOR OR NEC. THIS INCLUDES SUPPORTING CAPITAL PROJECTS TO ACQUIRE NEW PASSENGER ROLLING STOCK FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF SINGLE LEVEL PASSENGER CARS USED IN AMTRAK NEC
