Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
The Wells Area Improvement Project will improve the operational flexibility in the project area, and in turn add capacity and mitigate potential for schedule delays.
In 2016, NNEPRA developed a Downeaster Corridor Service Development Plan. One of the primary goals noted in the service development plan is to increase the frequency of service between Portland and Boston from the current five round trips to six and subsequently seven round trips using a phased approach.
Additionally, the service development plan includes goals for reducing the travel time between Boston and Portland (and subsequently to Brunswick). That plan noted two potential areas of improvements in Wells, Maine that factor in to meeting these goals; extending the existing No. 2 siding track (approximately 11,000 long) that currently ends at Control Point (CPF) 228 and adding capacity to the existing station platform.
