Grant Description
Award purpose

The project includes the purchase of two Tier 4 diesel reach stackers, 12 hybrid pick-up trucks, 14 Tier 4 yard trucks, 11 Tier 4 diesel top handlers (one with over height spreader), one Tier 4 diesel top handler with limited capacity for handling empty containers, one Tier 4 forklift (12 5-ton capacity), 25 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) terminal tractors, reefer racks totaling 192 slots, two hybrid rubber tired gantry (RTG) cranes with two spare spreaders, and one spreader testing bench.

The project also includes port and maritime modernization plans, electrical system upgrades, and associated civil works to support increased terminal power demand, high mast lighting, optical character recognition (OCR) at the Crowley terminal gate, two concrete RTG runs, one maintenance safety equipment and wash station, and two plug-in stations for the hybrid RTGs while at rest at the Port Everglades terminal (PET).

Activities to be performed

Component 1: Crowley project administration, grant administration, and fees throughout project life cycle.

Port and maritime modernization plan equipment purchase: 2 reach stackers (Tier 4 diesel), 12 hybrid pick-up trucks, 14 Tier 4 yard trucks, 4 Tier 4 diesel top handlers.

Construction and civil work: Reefer rack construction, construct reefer racks supporting 192 plugs total.

Electrical upgrades: Electrical system upgrades such as new electric utility substation construction, 24 high mast lighting, 2 optical character recognition (OCR) portals.

Infrastructure will include the portal structure foundation and connection to terminal electric and data systems.

Component 2: Port Everglades terminal project administration, grant administration, and fees throughout project life cycle.

Port and maritime modernization plan equipment purchase: 7 Tier 4 Stage 5 top handlers (one with over height spreader), 1 Tier 4 Stage 5 top handler with limited capacity for handling empty containers, 1 Tier 4 diesel forklift (12 5-ton capacity), 2 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) terminal tractors.

Cargo volume measures the movement of freight through the project study area.

Measure reportable events.

Category and description: Safety, quality of life.

Total number of reportable events per year.

A reportable event is defined as a safety or security event occurring in the project study area (terminal, berth, etc.) that results in one or more of the following conditions: a fatality confirmed within 30 days of the event, an injury requiring immediate medical attention away from the scene for one or more persons, property damage equal to or exceeding $25,000, collisions involving vehicles or vessels, an evacuation for life safety reasons.

Frequency: Quarterly.
