Grant Description
Award Purpose

The project will acquire electric and hybrid cargo handling equipment at PortMiami, including a total of approximately 47 terminal tractors, three hybrid rubber tired gantry cranes (RTGs), 76 hybrid trucks, 42 dual charging stations, and the infrastructure to connect and charge the equipment for 2 cargo terminals.

The project will also replace approximately 432 existing diesel-powered reefer generators, creating a new total of approximately 820 all electric reefer outlets.

Activities to be Performed

The project will be completed in three components with the following elements:

Component 1: Engineering and Design
Preliminary through final design for the reefer generators.

Component 2: Equipment Purchase Group 1 Seaboard.
Equipment purchase approximately 9 utility tractor rigs (UTRs), approximately three hybrid RTGs, approximately 2 dual charging stations.

Component 3: Equipment Purchase Group 2 South Florida Container Terminal (SFCT).
Equipment purchase approximately 40 dual charging stations, approximately 38 UTRs, approximately 70 hybrid pickup trucks, and 6 hybrid sport utility vehicles (SUVs).

Component 4: Supporting Infrastructure
Demolition, new elevated concrete pads, installation of infrastructure to connect and charge the equipment including feeders, replacement of approximately 432 existing diesel powered reefer generators and gen sets with electric reefer plugs, and expansion of the number of plugs by approximately 388, creating a new total of approximately 820 all electric reefer outlets.

Deliverables

Expected outcomes from Schedule G, page 10 of the grant agreement:

Measure cargo volume (TEUs).
Category and description: Economic competitiveness and opportunity.
Total tons of cargo moved per year (TEUs).

The movement of freight through the project study area report the total cargo volume and the volume disaggregated by type of freight (i.e., containers in TEU).

Measurement frequency: Quarterly.

Measure operating and maintenance costs.
Category and description: State of good repair.
Total costs by category per year.

Report operating and/or maintenance costs for only the project study area.

Costs must be disaggregated by any of the following: costs of operating such as fuel and oil, maintenance costs for services, parts, or supplies.

Measurement frequency: Quarterly.

Intended Beneficiary: Miami-Dade County.
Subrecipient Activities: None.
