Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Award purpose
The project will reconstruct Berth PN 308 at Port Newark.
The new berth will have a 75 year service life, increased live load criteria from the current 500 pounds per square foot (PSF) to 2000 PSF, and incorporate resiliency enhancements to the new structure such as a high level platform and prestressed precast concrete planks.
Additionally, project activities include demolition and debris removal, pile driving and capping, as well as deck installation.
Activities to be performed
The project will be completed in two components with the following elements:
Component 1: Project administration, engineering and design support, grant administration activities, develop bid documentation, advertise, evaluate proposals, and award design-build contract.
Staff engineering support during design.
Component 2: Berth PN 308 reconstruction and construction management.
Design of the project, demolition of the existing structure.
Reconstruct the wharf with higher structural standards and incorporate resiliency enhancements for a 75 year service life.
Elements include a steel pipe pile supported high level platform with a waterside combination wall.
A landside steel sheet-pile bulkhead for a total of approximately 1050 linear feet (LF).
Increase the live load criteria from 500 pounds PSF to 2000 PSF.
Construction management support during construction of the project.
Deliverables
Expected outcomes
Performance measures from the grant agreement page 10 schedule G measure vessel calls.
Category and description: Economic competitiveness and opportunity.
Total vessel calls per year.
Measures the number of vessels calling to the project study area.
Must be reported in total and disaggregated by any of the following where applicable: vessel type (e.g., container, bulk, RO-RO, LNG), freight capacity, vessel length, or other.
Measurement frequency: Quarterly.
Measure cargo volume (TEUs).
Category and description: Economic competitiveness and opportunity.
Total cargo moved per year (TEUs).
Cargo volume measures the movement of freight through the project study area.
