Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Award purpose
This project includes construction of an inter-terminal connector and civil infrastructure improvements for the development of a logistics park site.
The project will be implemented as two separate components.
Activities to be performed
Component 1: Inter Terminal Connector Road
The road will be 40 feet wide with two 12 foot wide travel lanes and will include two bridge structures, one roughly 1025 long and one roughly 900 long.
Bridge over Southern Drain
The bridge over Southern Drain will be roughly 900 long, consisting of nine approximately 100 long simply supported spans of prestressed concrete girders.
Roadway has two 12 wide lanes with 8 wide shoulders and standard Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) parapets on each side of the reinforced concrete deck.
The transverse section will include four prestressed concrete girders supported on pile cap bents with four prestressed concrete piles per bent.
The abutments will use prestressed concrete piles, monolithic wingwalls, and will support approach slabs at each end of the bridge.
Bridge over Yeend Street, Ezra Trice Boulevard, and Railroad Tracks
The flyover bridge over the local streets and the railroad tracks will be a twelve span bridge with prestressed concrete girders.
The span arrangement is 4 spans at 90, 1 span at 92.5, 1 span at 152.5, and 6 spans at 70 for a total length of roughly 1025 along the bridge centerline.
The roadway will be two 12 wide lanes and 8 wide shoulders with standard ALDOT parapets on each side of the reinforced concrete deck.
The transverse section has four prestressed concrete girders on spans 1 thru 5 and 7 thru 12, and five girders on span 6.
The abutments and pile bents will be constructed using prestressed concrete piles with a protective crash wall at pier 6 adjacent to the railroad tracks.
Abutments will use plumb and battered piles, which will have monolithic wingwalls, and approach slabs will be supported at each end of the bridge.
Riprap will protect the slopes at the south abutment, and a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining wall system will be used at the abutment at the north end of the bridge.
Component 2: Logistics Park Infrastructure
This component will provide civil infrastructure improvements that will make the site more suitable for future logistics developments.
This component will include the following elements: realignment of the ICTF entrance and realignment of existing storm drainage system to minimize the city drainage through the parcel, allowing for future warehouse cross docking use.
Deliverables
Expected outcomes
