Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Award Purpose: The project consists of the construction of four main components: a heavy load capacity floor in an existing warehouse used to store break bulk cargoes for export, conveyor improvements to support exports of agricultural products, a rail spur connection, and a new dock access road and bridge to support the movement of heavy cargo at the Globalplex facility.
Activities to be performed:
Component 1: Heavy load capacity floor at Building 71. This component will improve the foundation of Building 71 to increase the load capacity. Building 71 is 54,000 square feet.
Component 2: Conveyor improvements. This component will replace the conveyor system inside and outside of Building 71. This will be achieved by refurbishing an old conveyor system and the construction of a new system between the warehouse, the dock, and the rail spur.
Component 3: Rail spur connection. This component includes 0.5 miles of a new rail spur that will give Building 71 direct rail access. The design includes a new partial loop track, switches, and embankment.
Component 4: Dock access bridge and access road. This component will construct a new dock access bridge adjacent to the existing bridge and will be designed for a live load capacity to enable fully loaded trucks. The new bridge will be designed and constructed to support 1,000 pounds per square foot of live loading and heavy truck axle weights. This component also includes the construction of an access road within the Globalplex property to allow access from the new dock access bridge directly to warehouses and staging areas.
Deliverables: All within economic competitiveness. Freight movement: rail cars, truck total. Rail cars that are shipped out of the facility. Total truck movement in/out of the facility from the guard station. Cargo storage: bulk cargo gross tons measured in short tons.
Intended beneficiary: Port of South Louisiana.
Subrecipient activities: None.
