Grant Description
Award Purpose

The project will fund reconstruction of the Tender Pier and Dock B in the Pier 15 area in the Port of San Juan.

It will also fund the rehabilitation of an outfitting pier to enhance RO RO operations at Pier 15.

Activities to be Performed

The project will include one component with the following elements.

Component 1

Construction

Element 1

Dock B

The existing Dock B will be rehabilitated by constructing a new sheet pile wall in front of the existing wall through the full length.

The original length of Dock B is 1,050 linear feet and the full length will be rehabilitated.

The new sheet pile wall will be driven approximately one foot seaward of the existing wall.

This element also includes a new anchoring system which will either include tie rods and an anchor wall or ground anchors and installation of approximately 30 new fenders, 15 new mooring bollards, and mooring hardware.

Additionally, this element includes installation of a new fire protection system and rehabilitation of the existing utility vaults.

Element 2

Tender Pier

The work on the Tender Pier consists of the demolition of selective areas to create space for three new mooring dolphins to allow berthing capabilities.

Each mooring dolphin will require the installation of approximately six new piles, a concrete deck, mooring hardware, and fendering system.

Element 3

Outfitting Pier

The work on this pier includes selective repair of the existing concrete platform, coating of the upper part of the piles, replacement of deteriorated concrete piles, replacement of the pier's curb on the entire perimeter of the pier, installation of new fenders, gangways, and mooring bollards, and new utilities and fire protection system.
