Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Purpose: The purpose of this grant is to acquire the laboratory equipment and supplies necessary for the establishment of a Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) at the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center (GCREC), specializing in agricultural applications of artificial intelligence.
Activities to be performed: An equipment acquisition committee was established to determine what equipment would be needed for completion of the CAAI. The resulting equipment (which includes but is not limited to: oscilloscopes, computer numerical control (CNC) machines, robots, sensors, and agricultural vehicles) will be used to furnish laboratories covering the topics of electronics, metalworking, woodworking, printing/prototyping, agriculture, and workforce training.
Expected outcomes: The proposed work would help establish the CAAI, which would serve as a central core of faculty and technical expertise and focus on the design, construction, evaluation, and demonstration of novel artificial intelligence-based technologies.
Intended beneficiaries: The CAAI developed as part of this proposal would benefit local residents, the state of Florida, and the United States by: (1) directly improving the technological capabilities of the agricultural industry, (2) introducing new research and training positions at the GCREC, (3) providing resources to agricultural-technology start-ups, and (4) providing technological training programs to farmers and students.
Subrecipient activities: The recipient does not intend to subaward funds.
