Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Purpose: The purpose of this grant is to procure equipment related to innovation in future wood products for the architecture, engineering, and construction industry (e.g., wood fiber insulation, thermally modified wood cladding, and wave laminated timber) to achieve locally sourced products for affordable housing.
In addition, the equipment procured in this grant will be used to educate the future workforce, support the US Forest Service, and enable partnerships with local architecture and construction firms on new housing products and manufacturing routes.
Activities to be performed: This grant will support the procurement of various equipment needed to outfit the new Anthony Timberlands Center at the University of Arkansas.
These equipment items will include wood fabrication tools and equipment, metal fabrication tools and equipment, 3D printing capabilities, robotics, heavy equipment support infrastructure (lifts, etc.), scanning and test equipment, workspaces for students, and support equipment enabling construction of structures on site.
Once the equipment is received, the grantee will conduct safety inspections prior to use by students, faculty, and collaborators.
Expected outcomes: The equipment procured by this grant will be used in the conduct of research, for training of the future workforce, and in support of the forest products and construction products industry, both in Arkansas and beyond.
Intended beneficiaries: Companies in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries will benefit from the availability of the equipment procured under this grant through collaborative research activities.
Specific emphasis on sustainability and affordable housing will benefit the general public, especially those in low-income areas.
Subrecipient activities: The recipient does not intend to subaward funds.
