Overview
Grant Description
Purpose: The purpose of this grant is to create a per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) analytical laboratory on the UMaine campus. This laboratory would serve the monitoring needs of the state while advancing the University of Maine's leadership in PFAS research.
Activities to be performed: The proposal will perform the following four activities:
Task 1: Designing and creating a state-of-the-art PFAS analytical and detection center in a building at the University of Maine in Orono, Maine.
Task 2: Purchase instrumentation and equipment for the analytical and detection center to provide UMaine researchers with PFAS analysis and quantification.
Task 3: Hire and sustain the PFAS center staff.
Task 4: Provide PFAS analytical services.
Expected outcomes: This center will provide cost-effective and rapid PFAS analytical services for UMaine researchers.
Intended beneficiaries: PFAS research community, government decision makers, general public.
Subrecipient activities: The recipient does not intend to subaward funds.
