Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Purpose/Scope: The purpose of this new Math and Science building is to provide Marion Military Institute (MMI) with a centralized facility containing all associated classrooms and laboratories for all STEM and associated courses. The new building will allow the space needed to add courses not currently offered. The new two-story classroom building with basement will contain approximately 60,000 SF of space.
Activities to be performed: The new facility will house college academic instruction in STEM coursework. Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mirco, Math, Library, Computer Science, Botany, Organic Chemistry, Coding, Cyber and other Computer Science courses, Lecture Hall, etc.
Expected outcomes: The new facility will provide improved instruction support capabilities for STEM courses and the opportunity to expand STEM course offerings to include Computer Science, Cyber Security, and Information Technology.
Intended beneficiaries: The new facility will provide a much-improved instructional environment for the entire MMI Corps of Cadets, specifically catering to the needs of MMI's Service Academy Program. A strong foundation in STEM courses is a requirement for every Service Academy, and the new building will better support these educational needs. It will also benefit MMI's Army ROTC Early Commissioning Program, which has specific requirements in Computer Science and Cyber Security. Additionally, the building will assist cadets interested in transferring into STEM majors and establish offerings to support U.S. civil aviation, including both pilot training and air traffic control simulation. Lastly, the building will provide dual-enrollment STEM opportunities to local high schools and serve as a resource for the surrounding community.
Subrecipient activities: There are no other funding participants or sub-recipients.
