Overview

Grant Description
Purpose: Establish an accredited oceanographic calibration laboratory on the Gulf to strategically improve data efficacy for industry, academia, and US government interests.

Activities to be performed: Design and establish a calibration facility inclusive of calibration instruments, standards, support equipment, and environmental controls. Acquire and install necessary equipment and train staff to work with the equipment.

Expected outcomes: This proposed facility will serve the US research, defense, and marine operations communities with high-quality and rapid re-calibration services. Positive impacts are expected for research, natural resource management, shipping operations, and defense operations.

Intended beneficiaries:

NIST: Establishing an accredited oceanographic calibration laboratory on the Gulf will strategically improve data efficacy for industry, academia, and US government interests, including those of NIST.

Mississippi: NIST certified calibration services are in high demand relative to their availability. A lab in Mississippi would be strategic not only for Mississippi but also for attracting business throughout the Southeast United States.

Public: An accredited oceanographic calibration laboratory, which would aid in quicker re-calibration and maintenance of oceanographic sensors, would benefit activities in research, natural resource management, shipping operations, and defense operations.

Subrecipient activities: The recipient does intend to subaward funds.
