Grant Description
Purpose: The purpose of this grant is to implement the South Dakota Digital Equity Plan developed pursuant to the State Digital Equity Planning Grant Program.
Activities to be performed: The proposed project activities include the creation of digital centers; implementation of a standardized digital literacy curriculum and digital workforce certificate program to be offered across South Dakota at a variety of publicly accessible locations.
To meet this need for devices, the state will pursue expanding or creating a device refurbisher in South Dakota.
Doing so will guarantee low-cost options are available for all South Dakotans during and after the end of this grant while promoting homegrown talent and expertise.
These programs will be accompanied by outreach efforts to inform residents across the state about the digital opportunities in their own backyard.
Create an ecosystem that promotes the benefits of internet access while ensuring citizens have the means and the knowledge to utilize it safely and competently.
Expected outcomes: The proposed projects will result in improved access to affordable internet; increased access to standardized, multi-level digital literacy and internet safety curriculum and training sessions; expanded access to public-use devices; increased availability of low-cost or free devices for distribution; and a comprehensive experience for participants that ensures multiple digital opportunity needs can be met at one location.
Intended beneficiaries: Residents of the state of South Dakota and principally unserved and underserved covered populations statewide.
Subrecipient activities: The recipient does plan to subaward funds. The purpose is for implementing the DE Plan activities.

TO PROVIDE FUNDS TO STATES AND U.S. TERRITORIES TO IMPLEMENT THE STATE DIGITAL EQUITY PLANS DEVELOPED PURSUANT TO THE STATE DIGITAL EQUITY PLANNING GRANT PROGRAM. THE STATE DIGITAL EQUITY CAPACITY GRANT PROGRAM NOFO ALSO ESTABLISHES A COMPETITIVE PROGRAM TO MAKE BOTH STATE DIGITAL EQUITY PLANNING GRANT PROGRAM FUNDS AND STATE DIGITAL EQUITY CAPACITY GRANT PROGRAM FUNDS AVAILABLE TO NATIVE ENTITIES TO CARRY OUT DIGITAL EQUITY AND INCLUSION ACTIVITIES CONSISTENT WITH THE DIGITAL EQUITY ACT.
