Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Located in Norwich, Vermont, Willing Hands recovers surplus healthy food from grocery stores, wholesalers and farms and delivers it for free to more than 85 social service organizations across the Upper Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire.
Willing Hands mission is to reduce food waste and expand equitable and reliable access to fresh food.
Through the Give Local Food program, Willing Hands leverages philanthropic donations to support local farmers and mitigate food insecurity.
Our organization partners with local farms to invite individuals, often existing farm customers, to purchase CSA shares or make a monetary contribution restricted to purchasing local food for those in need.
The local farm products made available from these contributions are picked up at the farms by Willing Hands, and Willing Hands delivers the produce to 85 social service organizations that distribute the food to people experiencing food insecurity in the Upper Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire.
This program has three groups of beneficiaries.
Local farms increase their sales, thereby increasing their profits and providing a stable source of income.
People experiencing food insecurity gain access to fresh produce grown on local farms.
Individual donors who are interested in supporting a local farm gain a way to make charitable contributions to support local farms, local food, and their local community.
