Project Summary: The Fort Wayne Housing Authority is requesting $1,500,000.00 to operate and execute a YouthBuild program in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This program will serve youth between the ages of 16 and 24 who are high school dropouts, adjudicated youth, youth aging out of foster care, youth with disabilities, homeless youth, and other disconnected youth populations.

Program Aim: Participants are equipped for a prosperous and financially independent future, with a specific focus on construction training that leads to an industry-recognized NCCER certificate. The program extends beyond traditional construction roles with a specialized track, Construction Plus, catering to those interested in logistics material moving. This track offers training in both construction and logistics, along with the opportunity to obtain a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License). Participants not only contribute to affordable housing construction but also gain recognized qualifications in high-demand sectors. The comprehensive program includes GED attainment, professional certifications, leadership development, and community service engagement, allowing participants to apply their construction and logistics material moving training to enhance our neighborhood. The tailored program, encompassing work experience, mentorship, job shadowing, and internships, prepares participants for immediate entry into the workforce or continued education through community colleges, universities, or apprenticeships upon program completion.

Project Deliverables Outcomes:
1. 85% of youth placed in education and employment in the 2nd quarter post-exit.
2. 85% of those placed remaining employed or enrolled in the 4th quarter post exit.
3. Median earnings of $1275 per month in the 2nd quarter post-exit.
4. 75% of participants will earn a credential
5. 85% of participants will have a measurable skill gain.
6. We expect to serve 15 employers.

Description of Training Aligned with Investing in America: The YouthBuild training initiative stands as a pivotal component of the Investing in America program, aiming to furnish young individuals with crucial skills and lucrative job prospects. Throughout Allen County, millions are being invested for major infrastructure projects related to highways and bridges. Our curriculum alignment will prepare participants to contribute to relevant regional projects. Partnerships for both construction and logistics material movement (Construction Plus) will be engaged to ensure a well-rounded approach to curriculum development that aligns with development and improvement of interstate highways through infrastructure projects.
