Grant Description
Purpose: The Native Hawaiian Housing Block Grant (NHHBG) provides funding for a range of affordable housing activities to benefit Native Hawaiian families eligible to reside on the Hawaiian Home Lands. The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) must submit a housing plan to HUD each year that describes the affordable housing activities to be carried out during the year. The housing plans can be found on this website: https://dhhl.hawaii.gov/nahasda/nahasda-publications/.
Activities to be performed: Eligible activities include housing development, housing services to eligible families and individuals, housing management, crime prevention and safety, and HUD-approved model activities that provide creative approaches to solving affordable housing problems. In accordance with applicable appropriations acts, funds may also be used to provide rental assistance to eligible Native Hawaiian families both on and off the Hawaiian Home Lands. The housing plans include the planned output for each planned activity. Each year, the planned activities in the housing plan and the corresponding planned outputs may vary.
Expected outcomes: This award is to assist and promote affordable housing activities to benefit eligible Native Hawaiian families. The work supported by this award is expected to develop, maintain, and operate affordable housing in safe and healthy environments. The DHHL Annual Performance Report (APR) describes and provides the quantifiable results that correspond to each planned activity and the planned outcomes. The APRs can be found on this website: https://dhhl.hawaii.gov/nahasda/nahasda-publications/.
Intended beneficiaries: Generally, low-income Native Hawaiian families who are eligible to reside on the Hawaiian Home Lands.
