Project Title: Arizona Nursing Faculty Expansion Project

Proposed Number of Participants Who Start Training: 140

Summary of Project Purpose and Employment and Training Activities Offered:
The Edson College at Arizona State University (ASU) will fill the current nursing workforce gap through an AA BS to MS program delivered to 140 nursing faculty across Arizona in the next five years. In particular, the Nursing Expansion Program at ASU, funded by the Department of Labor, will partner with Arizona's strong community college nursing program leadership and Arizona's diversity of labor organizations to recruit underqualified nursing instructors, with a focus on rural and underrepresented groups, to provide low-cost, easy access to a nationally ranked nursing educator program. The goal of the program is to increase the capacity of instructional faculty, improve the quality of instruction, and increase the representation of cultural, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds in the nursing faculty across the state. This, in turn, will improve the quality of graduated nurses statewide. Ultimately, the program will contribute to the recruitment of a diverse nursing student body, prepared to enter the nursing profession motivated by nursing instructors with MS degree qualifications that reflect the communities they serve.

Targeted Population(s) to be Served:
Underemployed and/or incumbent workers from historically marginalized and underrepresented populations, including people of color. Statewide recruitment will include rural and underrepresented nurses across geographic HPSA regions in Arizona.

Training Track (Select One):
1. Nurse Education Professional

Targeted H-1B Occupations (Must match occupations listed in application):
The application will train participants for occupations along career pathways leading to middle- to high-skilled H-1B healthcare occupations identified in Appendix A:
