Grant Description
Program Purpose
Award Purpose: The purpose of 2023 QUEST Disaster Recovery DWGs is to enhance the public workforce systems ongoing efforts to empower Americas unemployed and underemployed workers through worker and business engagement, elevate equity, and connect jobseekers with high-quality jobs.

Proposed Participant Activities:
Employment and training activities will be tailored to participants learning, schedule, and language needs and will result in automotive industry-recognized, stackable credentials, and private-sector career paths. Supportive services to address the lack of access to affordable childcare, transportation, broadband, and technology will also be offered in collaboration with community-based partners.

Proposed Project Activities:
Strategic partnership activities will focus on statewide and regional manufacturing associations to coordinate and scale regional sector partnerships, and training strategies, and create pathways into good jobs. Community and potential participant outreach activities will be conducted by the local workforce development boards, their service providers, and community-based organization partners to identify target populations in the 23-county service delivery area. Business engagement activities will use the network of industry sector partnerships to convene the private sector, key education, and state partners such as Columbus State Community College, Sinclair Community College, the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce to map existing and forthcoming industry recognized credentials and college credit plus courses into stackable, in-demand pathways and create employment opportunities for program participants.

Deliverables and Expected Outcomes: 550 planned participants. Priority participant population: Individuals from historically marginalized or underserved communities including those who identify as people of color, women, low-income, veterans, restored citizens, and immigrants who were disproportionately impacted by layoffs during the pandemic and are underrepresented in the automotive electric vehicle industry.

Subrecipients: Local workforce development boards in central and western Ohio, local community-based organizations, and the states education and workforce development department.
