Grant Description
The lead applicant's name is Kansas Office of Apprenticeship (KOA). The lead applicant entity type is the KOA is the state and federally recognized State Apprenticeship Agency (SAA). The lead applicant city and state are Topeka, Kansas. The selected funding option is formula funding and competitive funding. The project title is Leading Apprenticeship Results in Kansas (Meadowlark Grant). The funding amount requested is $414,927 in base funding and $5,916,920 in competitive funding.
The total number of apprentices enrolled in RAPS during the life of the grant, if applicable, is the Kansas Apprenticeship Council (KAC) has an approved vision to grow Kansas to a top 25 state by 2025. This would be an increase in approximately 1,000-3,000 apprentices. If awarded, this grant would support those efforts by adding 1,350 participants.
The population(s) to be served are the KOA plans to scale the significant modernizations from the last two years to significantly increase the number of registered apprentices (RA) in the state of Kansas, particularly underrepresented populations, including women, people of color, and individuals with disabilities, and underserved communities, including veterans, justice-impacted individuals, youth, and those in rural communities, and to take steps to facilitate the growth of apprenticeship in our most in-demand industries and occupations across the entire state of Kansas.
The required partner (for states with federally-recognized SAAs and if the SAA is not the lead applicant) is the KOA is the federally-recognized SAA and has full backing from the Governor's office. The optional partner(s) are Kansas State Department of Education, Kansas Board of Regents, Kansas WorkforceONE Local Workforce Board, and other sub-partners who have a stake in economic success.
The targeted industry(ies) are educational services (K12 teacher education), care economy (healthcare, childcare, etc.), public sector occupations, supply chain (logistics, warehouse, transportation, and advanced manufacturing, including but not limited to the manufacturing of semi-conductors, batteries, and biomanufacturing), agriculture and food manufacturing, construction, and other high wage and high demand occupations in the state of Kansas.
The targeted occupation(s) include, but are not limited to, those that are the most in-demand and high wage occupations (including those that are youth and justice involved friendly) for the state of Kansas including:
A. K12 teacher educators, workforce services occupations,
B. Logistics and advanced manufacturing workers, mechanics, warehouse operators, transportation workers, maintenance workers, robotics technicians, applied engineers, biotechnology technicians, semi-conductor technicians, and more,
C. Health economy jobs including childcare workers, certified nursing assistance, phlebotomy, and more,
D. Construction trades specifically for youth apprentices that create solid pathways to adult RAPs, and more.
