The College of Health Solutions of Arizona State University proposes to host 20 half-time AmeriCorps members who will support COVID-19 mitigation strategies (outdoor garden building, garden nutrition education and physical activity curriculum implementation, COVID-19 testing and information outreach) in 40 low-income, underserved populations attending early child education sites that participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program in Maricopa County, Arizona. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for supporting COVID-19 mitigation at the 40 sites through outdoor gardening education and COVID-19 outreach, education, testing. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage an NIH-funded intervention with a large team of interdisciplinary experts and community partners such as the Equality Health Foundation who will be engaged in COVID-19 mitigation for underrepresented preschool children, their families, and teachers/staff at early child education sites. After their year of service, 60% AmeriCorps members will pursue future engagement in the public health sector.

The Center for Service and Volunteerism at Northern Arizona University proposes to have 50 AmeriCorps members who will be placed in organizations serving public health in the state of Arizona. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for delivering training in public health topics to 5,000 individuals in Arizona, 2,500 of whom will report an increase in health knowledge. After their term of service, 40 AmeriCorps members will pursue future engagement in the public health sector.

At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for serving 1,800 individuals, 400 of whom will report a change in behavior or intent to change behavior. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage 180 volunteers who will be engaged in community-driven health promotion.
