Grant Description
This award funds the approved 2022-23 Public Health AmeriCorps program, as listed on the approved program and funding summary charts. No member may enroll prior to the approved start date of the member enrollment period. Your 2022-23 regulatory match is 0%.
The Gardeneers proposes to have 25 AmeriCorps members who will lead educational programs and conduct outreach to provide support, resources, tools, and access to locally grown fresh produce for students, families, and community members through school garden programs, farm stands, and community workshops in schools and surrounding communities primarily on the west and southsides of Chicago. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for providing 4,000 students, family members, and community members with access to locally grown, fresh food by building their knowledge and skills to grow food in their own communities, combat food inequality, increase their health knowledge, and make healthy decisions for their future. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage 2,000 volunteers who will be engaged in maintaining the school gardens. After their year of service, 5 AmeriCorps members will pursue future engagement in the public health sector.
Association House of Chicago proposes to have 8 AmeriCorps members who will provide education/training, counseling/coaching, and service navigation through multiple programs in the Westside Chicago community of Greater Humboldt Park. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for improving community health and increasing participant health and health knowledge.
