Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
City Year National Direct proposes to have 816 full-time AmeriCorps members who will provide full-day education services to students in 85 public schools in eight cities. These cities include Buffalo, NY, Little Rock, AR, Milwaukee, WI, Providence, RI, San Jose, CA, Tulsa, OK, Kansas City, MO, and Chicago, IL.
At the end of the first program year, as student success coaches, the AmeriCorps members will mentor 6,000 students. Out of these students, 1,500 will improve literacy skills, 900 will improve math skills, and 440 will improve attendance. Additionally, all students will be supported in the development of social-emotional skills that improve school engagement. The members will also provide extended day and school climate activities.
In addition to their direct service, the AmeriCorps members will leverage 3,000 volunteers who will be engaged in service projects that benefit our school communities. This program will focus on the CNCS focus area of education.
The CNCS investment of $13,300,800 will be matched with $13,300,800, with $9,136,792 in public funding and $4,164,008 in private funding.
