Overview
Grant Description
The Chinle Chapter Government proposes to have twenty-four (24) AmeriCorps members who will provide service by addressing the chapter's manpower requests for minor home improvement, weatherization, and construction. They will also provide service on information that will combat the effects of obesity and diabetes in the Chinle community and within the immediate areas of Nazlini, Tséłání/Cottonwood, Many Farms, and Tsailé/Wheatfields.
At the end of the first program cycle, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for completing a sufficient number of manpower requests for the local community and immediate surrounding area. They will also have created a positive change in the area of obesity and diabetes education and healthy living. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage an additional 40 volunteers in the course of the service year, as well as collaborative partnerships with local providers and entities, in achieving the intended results.
All of their efforts have provided an increased knowledge and completion on the concerns with assistance warranted through manpower requests and knowledge of the hazards and issues dealing with obesity and diabetes.
This program will focus on the CNCS focus area(s) of economic opportunity and healthy living. The CNCS investment of $247,662 will be matched with $174,978 in private funding.
