Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), through Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) grant funds, administers the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) to support over 400 foster grandparent volunteers. The primary focus area of the FGP is education, covering school readiness and K-12 success objectives.
Service activities that align with national performance measures include: tutoring, mentoring, social and emotional support, summer learning classroom, and other classroom support. HHSC anticipates that by the end of the three-year grant cycle, FGP volunteers will have mentored at least 3,846 children and youth in education outcome areas in public schools, Head Start centers, and child development centers.
The FGP project engages in other community priorities such as juvenile justice delinquency, state supported living centers (SSLCS), and after-school and summer programs. Children in these populations will be served in output areas such as juvenile justice facilities, homeless shelters, libraries, museums, and after-school and summer programs.
The FGP service areas have offices in Abilene, Austin, Corpus Christi, Denton, Lubbock, Lufkin, Mexia, and Rosenberg and provide services to surrounding areas consisting of 37 Texas counties.
The CNCS federal investment of $2,193,056 will be supplemented by $604,676 in state general revenue and legislative state award.
