Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
Land Grant Programs at Prairie View A&M University focuses on providing underserved and unserved Texas communities with limited resources through education and the delivery of programs in food sciences and agriculture. The latest US Census reveals that nearly 14.2% of Texans are living below the poverty level. Our focus is inclusive of this population, accounting for the eight million limited resource Texans that we aim to serve.

Improving our facilities and securing new equipment and technology for these facilities will enable the university to expand services and accessibility to reach our diverse audiences across the state of Texas.

Prairie View A&M University has made significant improvements to its physical infrastructure over the last decade. The College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources has made notable improvements in its research, extension, and teaching facilities during these years. We plan to continue to add to that progress and improve our capacities in the areas of agricultural research, teaching, and extension with funds provided under the 1890 Facilities Grant Program.

The funds requested for 2023 will be used for the construction of a multipurpose research and training facility that will incorporate research labs, a training facility, climate-controlled storage, garages for mobile units, and office space. With the expansion of programs including workforce development and the new Integrated Food Security Center, this new addition will provide the space and state-of-the-art technology needed to support integrated research and expand outreach and training efforts to students and the citizens of Texas.
