Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Central State University intends to strengthen our capacity to fulfill our tripartite mission of teaching, research, and extension as an 1890 land grant institution by enhancing our physical infrastructure to advance food, agriculture, natural resources, and human sciences and related programs.
The enhancement includes construction of new facilities, renovation of existing structures, and acquisition of equipment over the next five years.
The objectives of CSU's 2023-2027 1890 Facilities Grant Program are:
1. Upgrade the exterior at Emery Hall by repairing deteriorating woodwork and expanding the parking lot.
2. Improve/upgrade/renovate existing CSU building interiors (C.J. McLin International Center for Water Resources Management, Carl C. Jenkins Hall Technology Building, and the Joshua I. Smith Center for Education and Natural Sciences) to enhance teaching and research efforts.
3. Add required accessories to the soon-to-be-constructed farm storage facility not included in the initial building project and construct a fish processing education unit.
4. Build-out one or two research laboratory spaces within the unfinished portion of the farm research facility scheduled to open in fall 2024.
A significant portion of the new facilities will be located across the university's main campus as we establish our research and demonstration site as part CSU's 1890 primary emphasis on small and under-represented farmers, as well as other stakeholders in Ohio. CSU's land grant activities are implemented through the John W. Garland College of Engineering, Science, Technology and Agriculture (teaching and research), the Cooperative Extension Service, and the Agricultural and Research Development Program Center.
