Grant Description
Ausable Valley Central School through our regional partnerships, the Adirondacks AmeriCorps*VISTA Project (AACV) project's mission is to address the needs of our rural, low-income community through collective action and asset-based community solutions. By utilizing regional data and VISTA support, we aim to improve outcomes in housing and food insecurity, K-12 education, STEM education and employment, and family development. Our focus is on anti-poverty initiatives that empower the community through sustainable solutions and capacity building.
The proposed VISTA project aligns with education, economic opportunity, and healthy futures focus areas. We will seek to:
1) Address the needs of the rural, low-income community through collaborative and collective action problem solving and asset-based community solutions. We will utilize regional data to improve outcomes for the region.
2) Develop sustainable solutions to systemic poverty issues by creating programs and services that meet the needs of the rural low-income community. We will also secure funding to sustain these efforts, accompanied by data metrics to determine efficiency and outcome impact.
3) Educate and engage the general public about these efforts through volunteer opportunities and targeted educational campaigns in our region. This will be done through events and we expect to benefit at least 500 or more economically disadvantaged families and individuals across all sites.
Fourteen VISTA members and a VISTA leader will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as:
1) Volunteer recruitment, training, and retention.
2) Creating and implementing a marketing plan and outreach plan to educate the community about available services and provide services to low-income people and other vulnerable populations.
3) Coordinating healthy eating programs and regional food shelf systems, along with funding and marketing of such programs.
4) Designing volunteer programming for targeted education programs within workforce development and economic development.
5) Helping to design, conduct, and implement recommendations from a housing assessment study of our region over the course of four years.
6) Enhancing effectiveness within all sponsor site data collection and analysis, sponsored events, fundraising, and information and/or communication plans.
7) Coordinating all services across sponsor sites and regional teams, including the Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster of the Adirondack Region.
8) Increasing K-12 education opportunities and efficiencies through various program development for the 21st-century learner.
