Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
The mission of PHENND, a consortium of colleges and universities in the greater Philadelphia region, is to build the capacity of its member institutions to develop mutually beneficial, sustained and democratic community based service-learning partnerships.
PHENND actively seeks to revitalize local communities, including public schools, and foster civic responsibility among the region's colleges and universities.
The proposed VISTA project aligns with AmeriCorps' education focus area. We expect the work of the School-Based Community Partnerships Coordinator VISTAs to benefit over 300 community partners directly and approximately 6,000 low-income students indirectly over the school year.
In addition, our eight nonprofit sub-sites estimate that they will impact an additional 240 disadvantaged youth in aggregate through their programming.
Over the course of the next 3-5 years, 27 VISTA members will contribute to the overall goals of these projects by building infrastructure that ensures that the partnerships built are mutually beneficial, sustainable and effectively serving the targeted communities.
