Overview
Grant Description
Through this project, the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD), in partnership with the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute (MMHPI), will reduce youth incarceration rates and expand access to evidence-based services by strengthening equitable, community-based systems of support across Texas.
Over 18 intensive months, the collaborative formed through this project will thoroughly assess resources, pinpoint service gaps, and develop a comprehensive, customizable continuum of care model. Goals are to increase the availability of effective diversion programs, foster seamless cross-system coordination, address root causes of confinement and racial disparities early, and provide a graduated response to effectively and efficiently meet youth needs in their communities.
Using the evidence-based Sequential Intercept Model (SIM), diverse partners will collaboratively map assets and gaps across multiple systems impacting youth. In-depth listening sessions led by the Texas Network of Youth Services will meaningfully engage justice-involved youth and families to center their voices and direct experiences in shaping solutions. A diverse statewide planning council of cross-sector stakeholders will guide assessment activities and oversee collaborative development of the continuum of care.
