Overview
Grant Description
The Joplin Police Department is committed to providing quality service to the citizens of our community and providing useful services to individuals in need.
The foundation of providing those services begins with strong effective training for all personnel within the agency.
The department is seeking $335,329.00 in grant funds to implement training involving responses to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
Desired agency training includes Mental Health First Aid created by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, de-escalation: Principles and Procedures conducted by the Regional National De-Escalation Training Center for all agency personnel, civilian and sworn, and advanced CIT training for officers to help fill the gap of our co-responder unit for night shifts and weekends.
The agency is also seeking funding for train-the-trainer programs in order to continue offering these courses to new agency personnel and surrounding agencies.
