Overview

Grant Description
This EDA investment supports the McCreary County Heritage Foundation, Inc. with restoring and revitalizing the historic coal mining community of Stearns, Kentucky, home to the Big South Fork Scenic Railway. The project work includes restoring the McCreary County Museum and making improvements to the historic district (walks, drainage, paving, signs, amenities, etc.). The project will build on the city's tourism and cultural assets, as well as increase the tourism activity to offer new opportunities for existing businesses in the area.

Once completed, the project will assist in the region's recovery and make it more resilient to fluctuations in tourism and advance economic resiliency throughout the region.
