Overview
Grant Description
Description: This action approves an award in the amount of $19,968,914 under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to Clayton County Public Schools.
This agreement is to replace existing school buses with clean and zero emission (ZE) school buses.
Activities: Clayton County Public Schools will utilize the Clean Bus Program funding to replace 50 Class 7 diesel buses currently in our fleet.
The 50 buses will be replaced with new Class 7 electric buses, with 40 of the buses being regular transport and 10 of the buses being handicapped accessible with chair lifts.
In addition, the funds will support the purchase of new ChargePoint charging infrastructure, which will be installed at three locations across the school district and have the capabilities to charge the 50 new buses.
Subrecipient: No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes: The anticipated deliverables are to deploy 50 electric buses on routine routes, morning and afternoon routes, to pick up and deliver students.
The expected outcomes include improved air quality in Clayton County and a reduction of vehicle emissions.
A reduction in negative health effects due to vehicle emissions and improved public opinion of electric vehicles and public engagement in efforts to improve air quality.
The new buses will help to meet Goal 1, 'Tackle the Climate Crisis;' Objective 1.1, 'Reduce emissions that cause climate change;' and will reduce air pollution on local, regional, and national scales to achieve healthy air quality for people and the environment.
The intended beneficiaries include the students and staff within the Clayton County Public School system.
