Grant Description
Description: The purpose of this award is to provide funding under the Inflation Reduction Act to the Port of Port Angeles.
Specifically, the recipient will improve air quality and reduce pollution at the port and in the surrounding area through the deployment of zero-emission equipment and infrastructure at the port.
Activities: The activities include the purchase and deployment of vessel shore power infrastructure, cargo handling equipment and other non-road equipment, training for port staff, and community engagement.
Subrecipient: No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes: The anticipated deliverables include the purchase and deployment of one battery electric reachstacker, two battery electric forklifts, one electric telestacker, three modern service cabinets, eight vessel shore power pedestals, and two mobile vessel shore power cable units and the scrapping of two diesel forklifts and two diesel logstackers.
Other deliverables include developing a community engagement plan and conducting workforce training for port staff.
The expected outcomes include reduced emissions, diesel consumption, truck hours, and vehicle miles; increased availability of vessel shore power, staff training on zero-emission equipment, and high-quality jobs; and expanded ability for the port to handle diverse cargoes.
The intended beneficiaries include the Port of Port Angeles (grantee) and other entities with whom the port intends to collaborate (the City of Port Angeles, Platypus Marine, Stevedoring Services of America (SSA) Marine, International Longshore and Warehouse Union, and the Maritime Administration).
Indirect beneficiaries include the near-port communities located in Clallam County.
