Grant Description
Description:
The Washington State Department of Ecology will use this funding to develop a comprehensive plan that identifies and prioritizes toxic reduction efforts across the Columbia River Basin and will create a subaward program.
The benefits of this project will be healthier river systems and a reduction of impacts of toxics on fish and wildlife.
This agreement will be funded under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
Activities:
Ecology plans on developing monitoring and implementation strategies for future projects in the Columbia River and Spokane River.
The completion of this project will be done through the help of a consultant and the issuance of subawards.
Subrecipient:
Ecology anticipates issuing up to ten subawards over the course of the six-year grant period.
The recipients of these subawards have not been determined yet.
Through an open solicitation process, Ecology will develop a request for proposals that focus on toxics and their impact on human health, and fish and wildlife within the Columbia River Basin.
Outcomes:
The anticipated deliverables include the creation of a statewide toxics reduction strategic plan, a region plan specific to the Spokane River, implementation of a subaward program, and program and policy development which implement the strategic plan.
The expected outcomes include a better understanding of the condition of the river systems, cleaner tribal waters, and reduced toxins in the river basin.
The intended beneficiaries are the project are communities within the Columbia and Spokane River Basin.
